Phrase,
Clause, and Sentence
A phrase : Two or more words that do not contain the
subject – verb pair necessary to from a clause .
Example : With her love of shakespeare and knowledge
of grammar, jasmine will someday be a great english teacher . (A great English
teacher)
A clause : The smallest grammatical unit that can
express a complete proposition .
Example : Cola spilled over the glass and splashed
onto the counter . (cola spilled and splashed)
A sentence : A grammatical unit that is
syntactically independent and has a subject that is expressed or, as in
imprative sentence, understood and a predicate that contains at least one
finite verb .
Example : My family and i have a vocation in bogor
every Sunday .
